Just one thing to remember here, no dancing round handbags lol OoooOOoohh? Why not? I like dancing around my handbag ;D Anyways, popped by to say hello to one and all. Gibbon knows me from The Frontier Forum and perhaps some of you out there too. Presently getting ready to update the ModDB page of Pioneer once the new Alpha is out, which will be soon. I really love how much the community has built up around Freelancer as its a great game with great mods! Keep up the wonderful work you all do and who knows? Perhaps one day Micro$oft just might sit up and take notice that their last great space sim is still going strong and finally release Freelancer II. The code is out there somewhere in a Micro$oft vault, wish I had the key! ;D

Welcome Geraldine. Rumour is they lost the code to the original as someone tried to buy it not so long ago and they couldn't find it.
Freelancer 2 or FL2 for short was on the way to being made but M$ decided to ONLY make it for the XBOX and from the videos that can be found, it looked like a simple shootem up so nice to see they were paying attention to what we wanted... NOT.
For those that are curious, Pioneer is a game with more than a passing resemblance to ELITE II being made from the ground up. Looks encouraging and i'm sure Geraldine will keep us updated. If you need a Pioneer section on here just let me know and then you can look after it lol

Hi Gibbon Yes I herd that rumour too. Sound like a "likely" story to me, Micro$oft never just lose something. Picture that big warehouse at the end of the first Indiana Jones movie, that's what (in virtual form) Micro$oft's software archive is like. Trust me its there As for Pioneer updates, sure I would be happy to keep you guys updated In the mean time, here is a link to the ModDB page www.moddb.com/games/pioneerFrom there they are links all over the place including Pioneer's own site here pioneerspacesim.net/

now here's something useful I can add to this site besides mispelled topics and stupid questions!!!
I have been told, from a very unreliable source, that FL2 is under production by an indy company. Evidently they somehow acquired the rights from micro$oft. I do not know the name of the company but I can assume that the outcome of the game may be a bit on the disco side since the person who told me this is one of the creators of disco and said he is working with them on this project.
I really hope they do a good job with it and the solve the issue of the hanging story-line the original FL left us with. I remember playing SP for weeks after mission 13 to see if there was a certain level I had to be to unlock more of the story... Then I smartened up and dug thru the files only to find out it ended at 13... Stupid M$ and their way of letting greed get the better of them and pushing the game out before it could reach it's full potential...

Very interesting BD. Jury is obviously out on this one for obvious reasons. It's not that we're doubting the information, but until i see some proof, screenshots, video or other, i simply can't pass judgement.
It would be nice, don't get me wrong, finally a sequel and all that, just hope it's for the PC and not the XBOX as we all know how M$ feels about PC gaming. Without some form of modding capabilities i fear its longevity would be limited, unless they were to go down the expansion route but that would mean paying for stuff...can't do that lol

The story as I have heard, is that M$ were gonna release Freelancer1 on the Xbox (Original old one) back in 2002 as its launch, but they felt that Halo would appeal to a wider audience due the release of Battlefield Vietnam, COD, Etc..
So in the end they released Freelancer as a stand alone game to buy.
I maybe wrong, but thats what I heard and have been lead to believe this all these years.
