I registered on his website and I'm now a member. There is a lot of speculation going on and I fear that expectations are set way to high. Let's wait until the official announcement to see what Chris really has in mind.

Now we seen it, now we know. I love to see a new space sim for PC, but not if I need to spend an arm and a leg for a new PC that is able to actually run this game. I haven't made up my mind about this game yet but I can't say I'm thrilled.

I haven't made up my mind about this game yet but I can't say I'm thrilled. Oh, i have already made my mind up m8, AVOID, just a clever little scam just in the boundries of the law. The real question is, Why is he not going through normal publishers, I know he said to " Cut the middle man out " but to me, if it was endorsed by say EA or Edios software house's and the fact you can buy it from Game or other outlets, would to me be the right thing to do. Plus the fact once you have it, to buy better weps and stuff you have to PAY with real money for the in-game credit system. Just like the little clever apps on your iPhone or other smart phone. I for one, will be supporting projects such as Genesis and Crossfire as this seems to me to be the better option. Donate if YOU like, When YOU like, makes sense to me. Cygna

I don't mind supporting a game in principle, see Spacesimcentral. On this site are plenty of indie developers with great ideas and talent that don't have the funding or the might of a Chris Roberts. I have to admit that I did donate 8€ on his site, but I wouldn't go more than that. I like him to succeed as the game itself looks great. And who knows what happen till then. However, I do have to admit that I am and always will be a Freelancer fan. So for me it's Genesis, Crossfire and NSU. I would add BSG Galactica Mod to this list, but unfortunately the server is no more for the lack of players.

Looks like Star Citizen is hitting it's funding targets. I wonder just how much it will reach?

Looks like Star Citizen is hitting it's funding targets. I wonder just how much it will reach? To be brutally honest i don't care. The game wont be ready for at least 2-3 years, and if you all want to be fooled by a very clever con, then go ahead and pledge. I need a new car, £2000 i need only, does anyone want to pledge to me, thought not..... still, give ur money to a complete stranger who made some games some time ago who you will never see in real life... He promise's a refund if not happy with end product, and get this minus admin fees...... if the fee is say 4 bucks, and 650,000 ppl pledge and refunded...well you do the math... He makes money out of us EVEN with a refund. Thats why i feel this is a wronger.. If he announced the game and said he was working with a major software house like EA, Edios, Microsoft, then it would be a game that you can buy in a shop, to me thats sounds the right way... I really wish him all the best and if he can produce the game he promised, than I'm all up for it. But, as you said Cygna, it's still years away and the Lords of Kobol knows what will happen till then.

I don't, he is an arrogant tit. 10yrs he goes missing to do movies and fails. so as a fall back returns to making games, and says he is out to prove that PC Games are not dead and still alive in him. PC games statistically sell 4 to 1 console game, yet he thinks that PC gaming is dead, and only after his return he will prove to the world that his "NEW GAME" will save it. Ego trip, i feel. Cygna

Well, one thing Star Citizen has done at least is put Space Sims back in the spot light. While you may agree or not, the possibility that it could encourage other devs to resurrect their franchises (or even create totally new ones), means it could still be a "good thing".
It also doesn't surprise me he didn't go the usual route of going through a big name publisher such as the likes of EA, as they just wont back a space sim. Instead, they stick to what is "safe" and has been proven to sell. They are there to make money first and foremost, making games we would love to see comes a bit further down the line. Now, I am not saying Chris Robert's funding model is ideal, I too would just like to go into a game store and buy the game just like I did in days gone by with the pile of space sims I have in my collection, but (speaking about Space Sims in general) that wont happen, at least for now. Not while the big backers are sitting and waiting to see what happens.
And yes I too have reservations about the game myself, I don't favour micro payments, heck I hate the whole concept of DLC and (at the end of the day) it could all be an elaborate con, too many new things are these days after all.
However, the possibilities shown in the vids do make it look great, so I am going to wait and see what happens. If modding is allowed from the get go, that could allow tons of free content, but again it's all just speculation for now. I do hope it is a success though and for all the right reasons, but time will tell.

But as i said on SWAT, Freelancer its self can be made better as it has the ability to be expanded and upgraded. Roberts have overlooked this by trying to incorperate it into his Wing Commander Franchise, it is in fact WC on the next level with a bit of his Freelancer freedom in it. I applaud new Space sims, but this is only WC and nothing new there, but as only upgrading ur ship by paying for it in real money, which i feel is wrong and mis-leading. Now Dev Teams may be turning a new page, doing what Roberts should have done, and thats re-modding the game on the CRY engine, Freelancer would be better and have that extra edge, and also the ability for scope and buildability. Meaning you can build your own stations, larger universe's, better AI ect ect, if you get my drift. This is what Roberts should have done, and rest assured i wont be playing his new/old game soon. The Vids are just eye candy, to grab u in !!! Rgds Cygna
