I have been struggling with an issue for awhile now and I don't know what else to do.
I'm working on a new total conversion mod and have been able to figure out how to do pretty much everything by reading forums and tuturials on various sites. The one thing I can't seem to make work is my startup screen. I've done everything the forums say to do: Made it a .TGA format, Make it 800x600, make sure the name is right... The only 2 things I haven't been able to do to it due to lack of the proper software is make it 32 bit instead of 24 bit and add an Alpha channel. Several forums say that those 2 things aren't needed anyways and they are just wasting time however I CAN'T GET MINE TO WORK!!!!!!!
Here's what I need from your genius minds out there. I need a link to some type of software that is free and will allow me to do what is needed to it, or, Someone that has the proper software and knowledge to do it for me....
That's it. Get that done and I can focus on more important things... And atleast get my demo out...

Do a search for Paintshop Pro 7. Loads of places you can download that now for free, the later versions are a pain in the thruster so don't bother.
As to your image issue, this is all i do. Goto \DATA\INTERFACE\INTRO\IMAGES
Open up startupscreen_16.bmp & startupscreen_1280_16.bmp
Copy and paste your new image into these and save.
Repeat for the TGA versions. Job done. NO ALPHA CHANNELS NEED TO BE ADDED. Then start your mod and bob's your uncle. If you try and create one from scratch it won't work which is why i copy and paste into the original images.

I tried the copy and paste thing.... didn't work... here's my screen I have made if anyone can help... I also have a .bmp of it attached to this post if it makes it easier. Thank you!

Well you're doing something wrong as i just did it like i suggested and it works great. This is assuming you are using Paintshop Pro of course. Btw, you didn't attach anything to your last post. Thanx G! That worked like a charm! Major kudos to you and your insane knowledge! Now since that headache is out of the way I just have one or three things I have to fix in the info cards and the demo will be ready for release!

These will work fine for this version. It's my first mod so I'm not doing anything too spetacular. v1.1 will have a story line and that will be the one to have all the bells and whistles on. By the way, does anybody know where I can get a square planet? It would be cool to have one of those

I'm not. They came in .tiff format and every prog i have, including adobe, can't read them. i've tried tagging them as .3ds and still have no luck. I'm currently setting them aside till i can get it figured out and making my own model from scratch. it actually looks pretty cool but i pushed the vertex limit on milkshape now i just have to figure out the textures and hardpoint things the solcommand ships were the sleeper ship and the ghost.

BD, i'm not trying to be funny but have you downloaded the right files? I've just downloaded them again and there are no TIFF files. You should be getting the Sleepership V.2.rar file and the Ghost_ship.rar file. when you unpack those files, there is no TIFF file included which makes me suspect you are downloading the wrong ones
